About me
I am an educator, academic leader, and researcher with a deep focus on cybersecurity. I hold a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the London School of Economics, England. My doctoral research explored the management of information systems security, which later expanded to include topics such as risk management, economic crime, and computer-related fraud. My work has influenced both public and private sector organizations, and some aspects have contributed to drafting national security policies.
My current teaching and research interests lie at the intersection of technology and organizational management. I was one of the earliest researchers (1997) to highlight the socio-technical aspects of information security. This contribution was recognized by Örebro University, Sweden, which awarded me an Honorary Doctorate (Ph.D. honoris causa) in 2019.
I have authored over a dozen books with leading publishers and published more than 100 research articles in prominent journals such as Information Systems Research and Decision Sciences. My work has also appeared in mainstream media, including The Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and NBC News. Additionally, I serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information System Security.
My academic journey began at St. John’s High School, where foundational principles shaped my intellectual curiosity. Thinkers like Machiavelli, Hobbes, Rousseau, and Nietzsche have profoundly influenced my perspectives. Beyond academia, I have consulted with organizations on developing security policies and risk management, and advised startups on leveraging disruptive technologies for innovation.
